CIS Plenipotentiaries Council meet in Minsk

The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council held a regular meeting at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 27 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting focused on the discussion of the results of the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council held in Moscow on 2 April and the tasks to implement the documents adopted and agreements reached. It was noted that the meeting was the first high-level event held in person for more than a year, and the first meeting of the Council members in the year when the CIS marks its 30th anniversary.

The foreign ministers exchanged views regarding the current issues of regional and international agendas and discussed in detail various aspects of political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian interaction within the CIS. All issues on the agenda were considered during the event and 10 documents were adopted. On the whole, according to the participants of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, the forum was constructive and effective, and the documents adopted at the meeting would facilitate the further strengthening and development of cooperation within the CIS.

The CIS Executive Committee was offered to develop a working plan for the implementation of the decisions made at the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting, and also to update the roadmap for the implementation of the initiatives put forward by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the CIS supreme bodies.

The CIS plenipotentiaries also discussed the results of participation of the CIS countries in the 28th Minsk International Book Fair, held in February 2021 under the motto The Book Unites People and Countries. In the year of its 30th anniversary, the CIS was the central exponent of the exhibition. At the common stand the publishers of the CIS countries presented the most outstanding book projects. Some 36,000 visitors of the exhibition had a chance to get familiar with the books - winners of the CIS Grand Prix International Competition Art of the Book. Members of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council hailed a high level of cooperation of the CIS countries in the organization of the book fair. Special thanks were addressed to the CIS Executive Committee for its active participation in the development of the exposition.

The participants discussed the agenda for their next meeting (scheduled for 18 May), as well as the issues related to the preparation for an on-site session of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council, which is due in Brest on 21-22 June.
