The meeting was presided by Aigul Kuspan, the chairpersonof the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The group reviewed the rules of procedure of the Eurasia Group, nominees to the vacancies in the governing bodies, and the outcome of the regular meeting of the IPU Executive Committee. The participants discussed the upcoming events of the 144th Assembly, the agenda of the working bodies and the overall theme of the general debate.
The opening ceremony of the 144th IPU Assembly was held on the same day, 20 March. President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia Puan Maharani together with IPU President Duarte Pacheco launched the IPU Assembly.
