The government will take the necessary steps to address legal issues in Uber's operation in Belarus taking into account interests of both sides. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement as he met with top Uber executives on 24 May, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.
Andrei Kobyakov described the visit of Uber's top executives to Belarus as a momentous event. “It confirms that digital technologies develop rapidly in Belarus, that our country offers a favorable business environment. I expect we will be able to build long-term and mutually beneficial strategic cooperation,” he remarked.
The head of government noted that he had been briefed about Uber's operation on the Belarusian market. “Within a comparatively short time you have secured good results in passenger transportation. You have introduced new technologies that can make travels comfortable for passengers and more transparent from the point of view of taxation,” said the prime minister.
Andrei Kobyakov said that the government will take the necessary steps to address issues relating to the legal regulation of Uber's operation in Belarus taking into account interests of both sides.
The prime minister also noted that the Belarusian government welcomes Uber's initiative to cooperate with the Hi-Tech Park. “Opening a Uber R&D center in the [Hi-Tech] Park will become a good start of our joint work,” stressed Andrei Kobyakov.
The Belarusian head of government also spoke at length about prospects of cooperation with Uber in the area of driverless transport.
