Partial restrictions on supplies of Belarusian milk to Russia lifted

Rosselkhoznadzor, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia, lifted partial restrictions on the supply of Belarusian milk to Russia, BelTA has learned from the Eurasian Economic Commission's (EEC) website.

“On 26 March, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance informed about removal of restrictions on the supplies of liquid milk produced by companies of the Republic of Belarus. The restrictions were introduced on 16 July 2018 after residual nitrate was detected in milk,” the Eurasian Economic Commission informed.

The Eurasian Economic Commission recalled that by signing the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, the participating states committed to ensuring market access for products meeting the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) technical regulations without putting additional requirements. On 12 November 2018 the EEC Board discussed the observance of this treaty provision by the Russian side. Taking into consideration that the EAEU technical regulations on liquid milk do not contain requirements regulating the content of nitrates, the EEC Board prescribed that the provisions of the treaty should be observed.

“The removal of barriers represented by additional requirements to products needs coherent actions of the EEC and authorized government agencies of the EAEU member states. This can be achieved by developing a uniform legal framework regulating the functioning of the common market of goods, services, capital and labor resources,” said Karine Minasyan, Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Internal Markets, Information Support, Information & Communication Technologies of the EEC.
